Employment
The city of Hialeah is one of the largest employers in Miami Dade County with over 1600 employees. Other large businesses calling Hialeah home include Medicore Inc and Simclar, Inc.
Many residents find employment in neighboring Miami which has been working overtime to promote itself as a business-friendly city to lure more companies to the area and/or to convince them to stay.
Currently, there are five Miami-based companies on the Forbes 500s. They are the medical supply company IVAX, financial services provider Lennar, real estate developer LNR Property, transportation giant Ryder, and the financial services company, BankUnited Financial. On the Forbes Platinum List of the 400 Best Big Companies in America are aviation and marine fuel supplier World Fuel Systems and cruise lines Carnival and Royal Caribbean.
